Home office design: layout-ing for a home office anywhere at home

Today, we will be discussing ways you can incorporate a home office set up at home! This will allow you to carefully plan, keeping in mind the position of the windows, electrical outlets, and if needed, the telephone jacks.

So how do you create a productive atmosphere for WFH no matter what size space you are dealing with?
First, start thinking about the purpose of the home office:

  1. What is the purpose of your home office?
    • Is it for you alone?
    • Or if you have a child, who’s virtually

learning at home, will you be sharing the space together?

  1. Do you have a designated space in your home you can use?
  2. What equipments will you be installing?
  3. Do you need adequate space for organizing
    your documents or books?

What do you need in the home office?

  • Desk(s)
  • Office Chairs
  • Storage Systems – bookshelves/credenza/mobile drawers
  • Adequate lighting
  • Additional Chairs – if space permits
  • Equipments – e.g. computers/laptops, printers, etc.

Onto choosing the location that best suits your home office, we picked these four rooms as examples where you can locate your home office:

In an empty/designated room

There are certainly many ways you can flip this room for a perfectly functional home office that serves many uses: e.g. it can be part home office, part homework study, part home admin center.

In the bedroom

To implement your home office in the bedroom, you can place the desk in a corner or wall.
This desk can also be used as a vanity desk, when needed.

In the living room

Natural light allows you to be more productive! We like to place our desk by the windows or if you have ample space between the sofa wall, you can place your desk by the back of the sofa.

In the hallway

Think practicality! Supposed you have a wide hallway infront of your bedrooms, you can locate your home office in this space and still make it a productive space.
